Boxing Day

29/12/09 09:30

Christmas has now officially been and gone, santa has returned to his house for his annual holiday and we're all still left trying to finish the Christmas Turkey and playing with our new toys. The sadest thing though, is that we have to wait a whole year before boxing day!

For those of you that weren't there, you missed out! It was another great year of flour bombing a spot landing competitions and we still managed over 80 entrants despite the year that we've all seen just pass us by. There were some great attempts at hitting the target, with a few getting very close, but alas still no-one hit it. One entrant, who shall remain nameless for now (at least until they are given the opportunity to buy some hush beer!) even managed to miss the grass triangle and hit runway 28 with their flour bag! I think we may need to have a wooden spoon award for next year.

Before I tell you the winners, the club would just like to thank all those that helped out again this year with the judging and setting up, especially to Sue Goodman who once again sat out in her car all day to do the spot landing judging and of course to John Pugh who co-ordinated everything and made sure all the exemptions were in place.

Also worth a mention I think, is the most dedicated bomber, Colwyn Darlow, who could only take one flour bag at a time, so had to land between each bomb to collect the next.

OK, so i'll keep you waiting no longer, the 2009 winners for the boxing day competitions were...

Flour Bombing: Steve Riddington

Spot Landing: Nick Birch

Congratulations to both of you, please see John Pugh for your prize. We'll see the rest of you again next year, book it in now with the family and bring them up, do whatever it takes, but don't miss it.
