Q. Do I Need Any Qualifications ?

A. No, to join the Aero Club and start training no qualifications are required. Before you can fly solo you need to pass a medical and it is recommended you pass an Air Law exam.
There are 7 written exams which are all mutiple choice, and to help you study we run a ground school once a week generally on a tuesday evening, or you can self study. There are several books and CDs you can buy to help your studies.

Q. What Can I Do Once I Get My Licence ?

A. All of the club fleet are available for hire, so if you have trained in a Cessna 152 which is a 2 seat aircraft you might like to convert to one of our 3 four seater aircraft, this generally takes about an hour. There are also a considerable number of syndicates operated around aircraft based at Leicester.
Once you have taken all the family and friends for a trip you might like to broaden your horizons and try some touring, we have several fly outs to encourage new licence holders to spread their wings a little further and also make new friends. Some pilots enjoy Aerobatics and we have 3 Aerobatic Cessna 152 aircraft to train in,there is more information about this on the Additional Ratings page.

Q. Why Should I learn to Fly At Leicester ?

A. Leicestershire Aero Club own and operate a fleet of 8 aircraft, 5 two seater and 3 four seater aircraft and employ 4 full time and 3 part time instructors so lesson availability is excellent. We also operate Leicester airport which has 3 tarmac and 2 grass runways lighting on the main runway for night flying and a navigation beacon on the airfield. Leicester airport is located in a large area of uncontrolled airspace so we have no delays waiting for commercial traffic allowing the maximum amount of training from your lesson. The club bar and restaurant facilities are excellent with an active social scene.
The airfield is open 7 days a week and we offer a high standard of training in a friendly club atmosphere.
